Phnom Penh's Tuol Tom Poung District Improves Drainage and Water Supply Infrastructure

The Chamkarmon District Administration is actively rehabilitating and improving its drainage system to mitigate flooding during the rainy season. This initiative aims to prevent the stagnation of water and the resultant unpleasant odors. Concurrently, the administration is re-establishing water supply network connections to ensure a sufficient and hygienic source of drinking water for residents in Tuol Tom Poung District 1. The rehabilitation efforts took place on the morning of August 3, 2026, within Tuol Tom Poung District 1, Chamkarmon District, Phnom Penh. Mei Ly, a resident of the district, stated that since the authorities began their weekly campaign of opening and clearing drainage covers, residents have found their living conditions significantly improved, as they no longer worry about clogged drains or foul smells. The authorities have also repaired and reconnected sections of the water supply network, which had experienced leaks, contributing to the residents' well-being. Kien Laksann, the Governor of Chamkarmon District, reported that under the diligent attention and orders of Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng, the Chamkarmon District Administration continues to rehabilitate the local drainage system weekly. This is to address issues of rainwater flooding and ensure good environmental sanitation, as well as to improve street aesthetics by preventing water accumulation. The district administration's team, in collaboration with the Phnom Penh Public Works Department and the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority, has been actively engaged in clearing and rehabilitating drainage systems on Street 135 (between Street 432 and Street 454) and Street 155 (between Street 472 and Street 470) in Tuol Tom Poung District 1. This includes repairing damaged sections of the drainage pipes and reconnecting water supply networks to households in areas lacking access to clean water. Governor Kien Laksann urged local residents to help maintain hygiene around their homes. He emphasized that discarding waste into drainage mouths or littering indiscriminately not only harms the city's appearance but is also a primary cause of drainage system blockages, leading to rainwater flooding.
