Banteay Meanchey Province to Beautify Poipet City to Attract Tourists

Banteay Meanchey Province, located in northwestern Cambodia and bordering Thailand, has announced plans to implement a beautification project in its provincial capital, Poipet City, by 2027. This initiative aims to enhance the city's appeal and attract more tourists. Governor Oum Rathry led discussions on the province's revenue and expenditure plan for 2027 and the draft provincial fiscal strategy plan for 2027-2029 during a meeting held on August 3, 2026. The meeting was attended by deputy governors, relevant ministries, and agencies. Governor Rathry expressed gratitude to all involved parties for preparing the budget plan before its submission for approval. He emphasized that despite facing some challenges, core development tasks at the provincial, city, district, and commune levels will continue, with the province also formulating successive strategic plans for local development. Regarding the budget for the upcoming year 2027, the provincial administration will organize a beautification project for Poipet City. This project will require relevant ministries and agencies to study the implementation tasks, including tree planting, sidewalk construction, and parking lot development along each road. Governor Rathry affirmed that the province's strong commitment remains unchanged and that the project will be implemented promptly in 2027. If the project cannot be completed within 2027, it will be carried over to 2028 to ensure Poipet City becomes a green and attractive place for both its residents and tourists. This project is seen as part of the Cambodian government's broader efforts in local development and tourism promotion. For Banteay Meanchey Province, especially being a border region, improving infrastructure and urban environment is crucial for economic revitalization.
