Cambodia Urges Provincial Information Offices to Serve as Official Communication Channels

Cambodia's Ministry of Information has instructed provincial information offices to strengthen their role as 'official information channels' to provide accurate and timely information to residents, investors, and tourists. This initiative aims to combat misinformation and promote the communication of government and local administrative efforts in development, security, and public order. During a meeting with information officers in Oddar Meanchey province, Deputy Minister and Spokesperson Tep Asnarith encouraged the enhancement of capabilities and proactive engagement of information officials. He particularly stressed the importance of disseminating accurate information and preventing the spread of fake news on social media. Mr. Asnarith commended the provincial information office's past collaboration with local authorities in providing information to domestic and international media during periods of Thai military incursions. He urged continuous and regular dissemination of information regarding the government's efforts in local development, security, and public order. The information offices are expected to leverage their official websites and expand information sharing through social media platforms like Facebook, Telegram, and TikTok, as well as traditional media such as radio and television, to boost the effectiveness of information management and dissemination. Deputy Minister Chan Sopheap also advised information officers to keep pace with technological advancements, accurately manage public opinion, implement effective countermeasures against false information, and contribute to social stability and national development.
