President Prabowo to Boost Village Cooperatives with Low-Interest Loans and Essential Supply Chains
Indonesian President Prabowo has announced plans to position Village/Kelurahan Cooperatives (KDKMP) as economic hubs, including providing low-interest loans and integrated supply chains for essential goods and government subsidies, aiming to boost rural incomes and stabilize prices.
President Prabowo Subianto has announced plans to transform Village/Kelurahan Cooperatives (Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih, KDKMP) into integrated economic service centers for rural communities, moving beyond their traditional role as mere savings and loan institutions. The announcement was made during the commemoration of the 79th National Cooperative Day (Harkopnas) in Jakarta. Prabowo explained that KDKMP will not only operate based on member savings but will also offer micro and super-micro credit facilities with attractive interest rates. Notably, he stated that the annual interest rate for these loans will be reduced to 8%, a significant decrease from the previous 22%.
