Cambodia Enhances River Basin Management Capacity with Training in Kampot

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology of Cambodia, on August 6, 2026, held a training workshop in Kampot province to strengthen the capacity of river basin management committee officials. The training focused on the preparation of river basin management plans. The workshop was attended by H.E. Prof. Dr. Aung Chantha, Undersecretary of State and Chairman of the Secretariat of the National Committee for River Basin Management, and H.E. Ngan Tharith, Deputy Governor of Kampot Province. H.E. Aung Chantha stated that the objective of this training is to enhance the capacity of sub-national level officials, especially members of the provincial river basin management committee, representatives from relevant ministries and departments, and local authorities, in preparing river basin management plans. This is to promote integrated water resource management and equitable, efficient, and sustainable use of water resources, in response to climate change and sustainable socio-economic development. The Undersecretary of State advised all provincial ministries, departments, and local authorities to cooperate and adhere to existing legal regulations in managing river basins. He also urged continued efforts to build and develop further capacity in preparing river basin management plans to ensure high efficiency and effectiveness in water resource management and sustainable development.
