Indonesian Finance Minister Replaced Mid-Session by Presidential Order

In an unusual turn of events, Indonesian Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa was dismissed from his post mid-session during a public hearing at the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) on September 14. While presenting the latest report on the state budget (APBN) execution, foreign capital flows, and civil servant salaries, Purbaya was interrupted by the committee chairman, Ahmad Nawardi. Around 3:30 PM WIB, Nawardi informed Purbaya of a call from the Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, and asked him to take the call. Purbaya, appearing momentarily confused, left the meeting room to answer the phone and did not return. He had been serving as Finance Minister for approximately one year. His replacement, Suahasil Nazara, who previously served as Deputy Finance Minister, was informed by the Presidential Palace earlier that morning. Nazara stated that President Prabowo specifically instructed him to "maintain the health and credibility of state finances." Unlike Purbaya, who was informed of the end of his tenure precisely during the appointment of his successor, Nazara received his instructions from the President directly. Purbaya has not yet commented on his dismissal.
