Quezon City Enacts Ordinance for Long-Term Cooperative Support

Quezon City announced on Sunday the enactment of a comprehensive Cooperative Code that institutionalizes long-term support for cooperatives within the city. Ordinance No. SP-3526, S-2026, known as the Quezon City Cooperative Code, establishes a unified policy framework for cooperative development in the city. This measure strengthens local programs and regulations in line with Republic Act No. 9520, the national cooperative law. The legislation aims to foster the sustainable growth of cooperatives and enhance their contribution to the local economy. Cooperatives have historically played a crucial role in the Philippine economy, particularly in community empowerment and poverty reduction. Quezon City is one of the most populous and economically active cities in the Philippines. Comprehensive support for cooperatives in the city could serve as a model for other local government units.
