Passenger Siprianus Antonius recounted the harrowing experience, stating that many were asleep when the incident occurred. He noted the absence of any alarm or life jackets, even as the ship began to list. Siprianus and three others were fortunate to spot and board a lifeboat, escaping the immediate danger. "If the crew had sounded the alarm, we could have known. There was no information at all. (Likely) many people died in their cabins. Many were still sleeping in their rooms. Some were asking for help, but we were also saving ourselves. The waves were big in the open sea," Siprianus said in a video released by BBC Indonesia. "We didn't have life jackets. There were three of us. But there was a lifeboat at the back. We jumped into the lifeboat, so we were safe."
