Martyrs' Day in Yangon : Secretariat Yangon draws crowds of visitor

Myanmar marked the 79th Martyrs' Day on Sunday, commemorating the sacrifices of nine national leaders assassinated in 1947 during the country's struggle for independence. Across the country, the national flag was lowered at half-mast, while a nationwide siren sounded at 10:37 a.m. local time, marking the moment of the assassinations. At the Secretariat in Yangon, the Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Yangon) organized educational and commemorative activities, including quiz programs and digital exhibitions, to promote public awareness and strengthen national sovereignty and unity. Among the visitors include students from basic education and higher education, and expressed that visiting to the Secretariat help them understand more on the efforts of the national leaders for country's independence. Observed annually on July 19, Martyrs' Day honors the country's independence heroes and preserves their legacy for future generations. Their sacrifices will forever be remembered by Myanmar's citizens as a symbol of independence, national unity, and sovereignty.
