Ayeyarwaddy Times September 15 It has been learned that U Than Shwe, the administrator of Ward 1, Ward 1, Thingangyun (East) Township, Yangon Region, along with seven associates, has been arrested and charged with four offenses for allegedly detaining, beating to death, and disposing of the body of a youth in his 20s who was targeted for conscription. According to local residents, the ward administration group used to apprehend youths after 10 PM and sell them for money for conscription. It is reported that a youth died after being beaten with iron rods inside the Ward 1 office, and his body was subsequently placed in the trunk of a car at night and disposed of in a bush along the Seikkanthar circular road near FMI and Shan Chaung village. Following a complaint from the deceased youth's family, Ward Administrator U Than Shwe and his seven associates were arrested and charged by the Thingangyun (East) Township police station. They have been charged under Criminal Code sections 365 (kidnapping or abduction with intent to secretly and wrongfully confine), 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender), and 114 (abetting) under Case No. (Pa) 1079/2026. It is frequently reported that youths are targeted for arrest, extortion, and sale within Thingangyun townships for conscription batches, and on September 4, an administrator and associates were arrested in Ward 6 for the illegal detention of a man for four days.
