Like its relatives, Dasypeltis albigularis lacks potent venom or sharp fangs. Instead, it possesses modified neck vertebrae that it uses to crack open bird eggshells before consuming the contents whole. This unique adaptation allows it to exploit a food source unavailable to most other snakes. The discovery process began in 2019 when Tiutenko received a juvenile female snake. Through extensive study over several years, its unique characteristics were confirmed, differentiating it from previously known similar species.
