Vietnam Celebrates 81st National Day, Ushering in New Era of Development

On August 28, Vietnam solemnly celebrated the 81st anniversary of its National Day at the Ho Guom Theatre in Hanoi. General Secretary and President To Lam delivered a keynote speech, declaring that Vietnam has entered a new era of development following its independence, reunification, and the Doi Moi (Renovation) period. General Secretary and President Lam referenced the Declaration of Independence by President Ho Chi Minh on September 2, 1945, emphasizing its spirit as the source of Vietnamese national unity and strength. He stated that the words, "The Vietnamese people are determined to use all their spirit, strength, fortunes, and lives to safeguard their freedom and independence," continue to resonate with the people 81 years later. The ceremony was attended by Party and State leaders, revolutionary veterans, labor heroes, religious dignitaries, ambassadors, representatives of international organizations, and delegates from across the nation and overseas Vietnamese communities. Reflecting on Vietnam's development, General Secretary and President Lam noted the country's transformation from a nation lacking international recognition to one with diplomatic relations with 194 countries, membership in numerous international organizations, and 17 free trade agreements. He highlighted its evolution from a war-torn land to a dynamic economy deeply integrated into the global system, now classified as a middle-income country. General Secretary and President Lam outlined national goals: to become a country with modern industry and high middle income by 2030, the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and a developed, high-income nation characterized by prosperity and happiness by 2045, the centenary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. He reiterated the Communist Party of Vietnam's commitment to placing "the people as the subject and the center," prioritizing the people's lives, aspirations, rights, and legitimate interests. He also expressed gratitude for the international community's long-standing support and cooperation, signaling Vietnam's intent to continue close collaboration with countries, partners, businesses, and foreign investors in this new era of development.
