Cambodian Foreign Minister Congratulates China on 77th National Day, Reaffirms 'Ironclad' Ties

Prak Sokhonn extended his warmest congratulations to the People's Republic of China on the 77th anniversary of its founding, praising Beijing's continuous achievements across economic, technological, and industrial sectors. Speaking on behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia at a reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Phnom Penh on Monday evening, H.E. Prak Sokhonn expressed confidence that China, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, will continue to achieve new milestones. He highlighted that 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the historic first visit by the late King Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk to China, an event that laid the foundation for bilateral relations. Over the past seven decades, he noted, successive generations of leaders have nurtured these ties into an "ironclad friendship" and a comprehensive strategic partnership. H.E. Prak Sokhonn reiterated Phnom Penh's steadfast commitment to the One-China policy, stressing that issues concerning Hong Kong, Taiwan, Xizang (Tibet), and Xinjiang are purely internal affairs of China. He added that both nations maintain strong traditions of high-level exchanges and mutual support on core interests. For his part, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Wang Wenbin remarked that 2026 also marks the 68th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries. He affirmed that China remains a trusted partner supporting Cambodia’s self-determined development path, noting that bilateral cooperation has expanded significantly following high-level visits by leaders of both nations. H.E. Wang Wenbin emphasised that outcomes from Chinese President H.E. Xi Jinping’s visit to Cambodia last year have been actively implemented since the beginning of 2026, driving bilateral relations to new heights. The ambassador added that subsequent visits to China by Cambodian Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet have further elevated the bilateral partnership, advancing practical cooperation and strategic trust between the two nations.
