Cambodia Incentivizes Citizens to Report Online Scams with Rewards

In Kandal Province, central Cambodia, a new initiative has been launched to encourage citizen participation in combating online scams. Governor Kuoch Chamroeun of Kandal Province has instructed relevant authorities to provide rewards to citizens who report online scams that lead to successful crackdowns, ensuring the confidentiality of the informants. This directive was issued during a meeting led by Governor Kuoch Chamroeun on September 15, while inspecting companies and casinos in the districts of Leuk Daek and Samphou Poun within Kandal Province. Representatives from the National Police, the National Military Police, and the Provincial Court Prosecutor's Office also attended the meeting. This measure aligns with the Cambodian government's firm policy to eradicate online scam crimes nationwide, making it a national priority. The provincial governor urged the administrations of Leuk Daek and Samphou Poun districts to actively encourage citizen reporting and to promptly disburse rewards for successful operations. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining the anonymity of informants to foster a safe environment for public cooperation. Furthermore, the province will continue regular administrative inspections and operations in all local areas to completely eliminate online scams. Special attention will be given to identifying individual scammers and those operating covertly. Efforts will also be made to build intelligence networks, particularly in border areas and concerning foreign nationals, to ensure timely response and preventive measures. Governor Kuoch Chamroeun stated, "Armed forces and relevant authorities must undertake this mission with the highest sense of responsibility to ensure public security and the nation's honor. No exceptions will be tolerated," urging strict enforcement from all involved agencies.
