'Angkor Sunrise' Event Attracts Large Crowds Despite Weather, Boosting Cultural Heritage Interest

The 'Angkor Sunrise' event, aimed at cultural heritage preservation and tourism promotion in Siem Reap province, northwestern Cambodia, attracted a large number of visitors despite unfavorable weather conditions. Held over three days from September 21 to 23, 2026, the event saw a total of approximately 37,533 domestic and international tourists visit Angkor Wat. Of these, domestic tourists and Cambodian citizens accounted for about 35,392, a 73.75% increase compared to 2025. Foreign tourists numbered approximately 2,141, a 6.20% rise from the previous year. Although September is part of the rainy season, limiting daylight hours and the visibility of the sunrise, visitors were able to appreciate the magnificent architectural beauty of Angkor Wat, take commemorative photos, and deepen their understanding of Khmer civilization's architectural styles and historical value. The event once again highlighted the significant public interest in Cambodia's rich cultural heritage.
