D'ran Pass Section of National Highway 20 Closed Due to Landslide

A large-scale landslide occurred on National Highway 20 at D'ran Pass in Lam Dong Province on the night of September 11, following heavy rains, forcing a temporary closure of the route. Around 9 PM on September 11, soil and rocks from the mountainside cascaded onto National Highway 20 in the D'ran Pass area, near the border of Xuan Truong ward (Da Lat) and D'ran commune. Tens of cubic meters of debris covered the road, making the pass treacherous. With ongoing rain and limited visibility, coupled with the risk of further collapses, passage through the area is deemed unsafe. After 10 PM, functional forces arrived at the scene and began implementing measures to address the landslide. Traffic police, in coordination with local police and military personnel, organized traffic diversions and issued warnings to the public about the safety risks. Colonel Nguyen Van Tiep, Head of the Lam Dong Provincial Police's Traffic Police Department, stated that soil, rocks, and trees continue to slide onto the road, necessitating the temporary closure of D'ran Pass. His unit is urgently working on mitigation efforts. The current landslide site is not far from an area that experienced a severe landslide during the 2025 rainy season, located within D'ran commune. The closure of the pass forces vehicles entering and exiting Da Lat to take a detour of over 20 kilometers. They must travel along National Highway 20 to Phi Nom intersection, then turn onto National Highway 27 to reach D'ran. Functional forces have placed warning signs and cordoned off the affected area at both ends. National Highway 20 spans 264 kilometers, starting from Dau Giay intersection in Dong Nai Province, passing through rubber plantations and Bao Loc Pass to Da Lat, then descending to D'ran commune, connecting to the Phan Rang region (Khanh Hoa). According to weather forecasts, influenced by the southern edge of a tropical convergence band connected to a low-pressure system over the East Sea, the central Da Lat area and its surroundings are expected to experience rain at night, with intermittent sunshine during the day.
