Son La Province Establishes Two New Infantry Regiments as Military Reorganization Continues

The Ministry of National Defense has announced decisions to establish two infantry regiments directly under the Son La Provincial Military Command. This is a major policy of the Party, State, Central Military Commission, and Ministry of National Defense to build local armed forces towards being lean, strong, and meeting the requirements of national defense in the new era, stated Major General Lai Tien Giang, Deputy Chief of Staff of Military Region 2. On August 4, the Son La Provincial Military Command held a conference to announce the Ministry of National Defense's decisions on dissolving the regional defense command and establishing two infantry regiments (Regiment 13 and Regiment 14) directly under the Provincial Military Command. The conference was attended by Major General Lai Tien Giang, Deputy Chief of Staff of Military Region 2; Mr. Nguyen Dinh Viet, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; and Colonel Chu Van Thanh, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Commander of the Son La Provincial Military Command, along with leaders from some departments, sectors, and local armed forces. Decisions on reorganizing the Party committees and organizations of the two newly established regiments were also announced. Attendees were briefed on the implementation plan and task assignments for each agency and unit to ensure the reorganization process is synchronous, rigorous, and in accordance with regulations. Major General Lai Tien Giang urged the Son La Provincial Military Command to focus on leading and directing the new regiments to quickly stabilize their organization and personnel; complete their documentation and work plans to ensure operations commence immediately after establishment without interrupting missions. He also emphasized strengthening regular training, tightening discipline, building comprehensively strong units, and promoting emulation movements to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Military Region 2 Armed Forces (October 19, 1946 - October 19, 2026), contributing to consolidating the national defense posture, maintaining political stability, social order, and safety, and making the Son La provincial defense area increasingly solid. This reorganization is seen as part of Vietnam's ongoing efforts to modernize its defense capabilities and ensure national sovereignty and security amidst a complex geopolitical landscape. Strengthening local military organizations, particularly in border areas and strategic locations, is crucial for maintaining domestic stability and enhancing the capacity to respond to potential external threats.
