Cambodia Intensifies Fight Against Online Scams, Provincial Governor Urges Public Awareness

Kampong Cham Provincial Governor Oun Chanda has urged relevant departments to continue and strengthen public awareness campaigns regarding phone and social media scam tactics. The governor made these remarks during a meeting to review the results of the first half of 2026 activities. The meeting served as a platform for members to discuss achievements, challenges, and shortcomings encountered in various localities. Governor Oun Chanda emphasized that the insights gained from this meeting would further assist in leading, implementing, and organizing development plans. These plans are designed to align with the government's "Pentagonal Strategy" Phase 1, national policies, and crucially, to address the specific needs, concerns, and challenges faced by the local population. He highlighted the serious impact of online scams on Cambodia, noting that the country has been victimized by criminals using it as a base for technological fraud. This crime has severely affected Cambodia's security, public order, tourism, investment, and economy, as well as its international reputation and dignity. While the government remains committed to its campaign to eradicate online scams, the governor stressed the importance of collective efforts to educate citizens. He called for heightened public vigilance against phone and social media scams to protect personal assets and safety. Widespread dissemination of the "Safe Village-Commune" policy, Government Sub-decree No. 03, and relevant laws through public forums and direct engagement with citizens was also mandated.
