12 surrender and join PDF in Kani Township

(Kani(9plus)) It has been reported that a total of 12 individuals, including defectors and prisoners of war, have emerged from the military junta's forces that advanced into Kani Township with an estimated strength of 500 soldiers to gain control of the Monywa-Yargyi-Kalay road in Sagaing Region. The military junta's forces entered Kani Township starting on May 1st and joined the revolutionary forces after two months of continuous clashes with local revolutionary troops. Officials from various revolutionary forces stated that 12 people have surrendered to the revolutionary forces, and prisoners of war have also been captured. "Defections started with two or three people from the military junta's side. When they learned they could get out, they contacted the remaining people in the unit and left. We are also urging them to join us as soon as possible," said a member of a Kani-based revolutionary force. It is understood that the Kani (9 plus) group is taking care of those who surrendered to the revolutionary forces and the captured prisoners, and some of those who surrendered have been returned to their respective families. The majority of those who surrendered are People's Militia, and it has been confirmed whether they are genuinely defecting or attempting to gather information for the revolutionary forces. During the clashes between the military junta's forces and the revolutionary forces within Kani Township, the military junta's forces carried out aerial attacks using suicide drones and jet fighter aircraft. Currently, due to the military junta's forces establishing a base in Chaungma village along the Monywa-Yargyi road in Kani Township, approximately 2,000 residents from five villages have been displaced and are facing difficulties in obtaining daily necessities. According to statements from People’s Goal, statistics collected from January 2025 to June 2026 show that the total number of individuals who surrendered to revolutionary forces, laid down their arms, and were captured as prisoners of war has reached 3,678.
