Kampong Cham Province Inspects Water System Development for 20,000 Hectares, Plans Solar Power Transition

Kampong Cham Provincial Governor, His Excellency Aun Chanda, on the morning of September 20, 2026, led a working group of relevant officials to inspect and prepare the Hun Sen 15 Pumping Station located in Banteay Thmey village, Samrong commune, Prey Chhor district. The aim is to provide farmers with sufficient water for irrigating their crops. During his visit to the site, His Excellency Aun Chanda stated that the working group has been examining the organization of water user communities and the preparation of irrigation systems to ensure that residents in the entire Samrong commune of Prey Chhor district have adequate water supply. The first phase of this preparation will cover approximately 900 hectares, with the second phase potentially extending to Cheung Prey district. The overall plan aims to supply water to approximately 20,000 hectares of farmland for production. His Excellency the Governor further explained that to achieve the comprehensive plan, robust water sources with large capacity, capable of storing significant amounts of water drawn from the Mekong River, must be established to continuously supply water for irrigating over 20,000 hectares of land. His Excellency the Governor also specified that the Hun Sen 15 Pumping Station will be renovated from its current fuel-powered engine operation to utilize solar energy. This transition is intended to save costs and reduce operational expenses.
