Pinoys Want Sara to Address Impeachment Raps: SWS Survey

A significant majority of Filipinos want Vice President Sara Duterte to address the impeachment charges filed against her, a survey by Social Weather Stations (SWS) revealed. Conducted from June 20 to 29, the poll found that 70 percent of respondents believe Duterte should address the allegations, which pertain to corruption. This figure represents an increase from the 67 percent recorded in the previous SWS survey in March. Conversely, only 17 percent of respondents stated that Duterte should not address the charges, a slight decrease from 19 percent in the prior poll. Undecided respondents remained relatively stable, moving from 14 percent to 13 percent. The sentiment that Duterte should face the charges saw an increase across most regions, with the exception of Metro Manila, where it dipped from 74 percent to 70 percent. In Balance Luzon, the percentage rose from 69 percent to 73 percent. The Visayas region recorded a notable jump from 61 percent to 70 percent, while Mindanao saw a modest increase from 62 percent to 64 percent. Furthermore, the survey indicated a substantial rise in public awareness regarding the impeachment proceedings against the Vice President. A total of 74 percent of respondents were aware of the case, a significant jump from 43 percent in March. SWS noted that awareness was highest in Metro Manila (79 percent), followed by Mindanao (77 percent), Balance Luzon (74 percent), and the Visayas (69 percent). Awareness also correlated with education levels, being highest among college graduates at 93 percent. The survey involved 1,200 respondents, with a margin of error of plus or minus three percent for national percentages.
