Bandung City Fines Videotron Installer IDR 100 Million, Orders 100 Trees Planted for Illegal Logging

Bandung City, Indonesia – Authorities in Bandung City have imposed strict sanctions on a subcontractor involved in the illegal felling of 10 street trees for the installation of a videotron. The perpetrator, found to be in violation of Bylaw No. 3 of 2026, has been ordered to pay a fine of IDR 100 million and is obligated to plant 10 trees for each tree felled. According to Bambang Sukardi, Head of the Bandung City Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), the individual responsible has admitted their fault and expressed their intention to apologize. The IDR 100 million fine has already been deposited into the city's regional revenue, and the tree-planting initiative is expected to be carried out promptly. The trees were reportedly cut down because their presence was deemed obstructive to the videotron's placement. The videotron in question is currently sealed by the Bandung City government for an undetermined period. Authorities are also conducting further investigations to uncover any other parties involved in the illegal logging incident. Bambang Sukardi stated, "It's unlikely to be a single person," indicating a commitment to identifying and prosecuting all involved. The incident came to light on July 31st when approximately 10 trees on the sidewalk of Jalan LLRE. Martadinata in Bandung City were discovered to have been illegally cut down. Upon discovery, the tree stumps were reportedly covered with smaller plants and cemented over, presumably to conceal evidence of the felling.
