Mary Jane Veloso, a former Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW), has regained her freedom after 16 years of detention, following an absolute pardon from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. After 14 years in an Indonesian prison and nearly two years in a Philippine correctional facility, Veloso is embarking on a new chapter.
MANILA, Philippines – In her first one-on-one interview since receiving an absolute pardon, former overseas Filipino worker Mary Jane Veloso sits down with Rappler’s Jairo Bolledo on Friday, September 25, to discuss her newly attained freedom. Veloso was granted an absolute pardon by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday, September 24, paving the way for her freedom after 16 years of detention. Fourteen of those years were spent in an Indonesian prison, and nearly two at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City. Veloso was issued a discharge certificate from the CIW on Friday, the same day the pardon was made public.
