PLN Boss Assures No More Intermittent Blackouts on Java Island
PT PLN (Persero) President Director Darmawan Prasodjo has assured that rotational power outages on Java Island will no longer occur. He explained that increased coal supply has enhanced electricity generation capacity by 5 GW, improving system reliability.
JAKARTA - President Director of PT PLN (Persero) Darmawan Prasodjo has assured that there will be no more rotational power outages in the Java Island area. According to him, the electricity system on the island of Java has returned to being reliable, preventing similar incidents from recurring. "The condition of the Java distribution system, especially in Java, has not experienced issues since June 21, 2026," stated Darmawan during a Public Hearing with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives on Thursday, July 2. He explained that to overcome the intermittent blackouts, PLN increased the supply of medium-calorific coal (above 4,500 kcal/kg) to power plants. Additionally, PLN secured an extra allocation of 1.8 million tons of coal supply for July, outside of existing provisions. To ensure plant reliability until year-end, a further 3 million tons of coal supply is scheduled from August to December. With these additional supplies, Darmawan continued, PLN can boost the Java electricity system's supply capacity by approximately 5 Gigawatts (GW) from the previous 35.9 GW. "This addition of 5 gigawatts above the existing 35.9 gigawatt capacity will undoubtedly make the distribution system on the island of Java much more reliable," he concluded.
