Youth group arrested for stabbing two students in San Chaung Township

It has been learned that a group of youths who stabbed two students with knives in San Chaung Township, Yangon Region, have been arrested. The incident occurred on the evening of September 17, when a group of youths stabbed two students with knives on Bar Street in San Chaung Township, Yangon Region, near the San Chaung Link market. It is known that the youths involved in the incident were seven males and one female. It has been learned that one of the two students who committed the offense, named Arkar Kyaw, was involved in a prank via Telegram with Shwe Yi Wati (aka Thada), whom he knew. Shwe Yi Wati's boyfriend, Htet Htet Tun, was displeased with this. Consequently, he arranged to meet at the scene of the incident and carried out acts of group stabbing, punching, and throwing stones. Police reviewed CCTV footage from the scene and arrested the perpetrators: Shwe Yi Wati (aka Thada) (18 years old), Htet Htet Tun (18 years old), Zin Ko (18 years old), Nay Min Khant (17 years old), Aung Aung Oo (21 years old), Aung Myat Thu (14 years old), Min Htet Kyaw (17 years old), and Pyae Sone Aung (16 years old). It is known that one of the perpetrators, known as A Tay Lay, is on the run. One of the two youths who were victims is receiving treatment at the hospital, while the other has been discharged, it has been learned. "Some children who have not reached the age of majority will face trial in the juvenile court. Those who have reached the age of majority will face trial in court. One of the injured children is still in the hospital," said a source close to the police force. It has been learned that the San Chaung Township Police Station has filed a case against the arrested individuals who collectively beat, stabbed, and stoned the two students, under sections 294, 323, 324, 506/114 of the Penal Code, with case number (Pa) 389/2026. Regarding this incident, there have been demands on social media pages for the perpetrators to be arrested and prosecuted.
