Thai Government Boosts Skills for Logistics and Transport Workers, Creating Jobs and Enhancing Economic Competitiveness

The Thai government is actively pursuing initiatives to upskill workers within the crucial logistics and transportation sectors. This strategic move aims to directly address market labor demands by transforming training and education into immediate career opportunities and substantial income generation. Captain Pattarassamee Thongsroykone, Deputy Government Spokesperson, revealed that the government is implementing proactive policies to solve labor issues swiftly and effectively. The Ministry of Labour has joined forces with three prominent industry associations: the International Freight Forwarders Association, the Hazardous Substances Business Association, and the Licensed Customs Broker Association of Thailand. This collaboration has led to the establishment of the "Logistics Industry Personnel Development Project," designed to elevate the skills of the new generation of workers. The project offers specialized training courses lasting between 120 to 240 hours. Key curriculum areas include international freight forwarding, cross-border management of hazardous materials within the Greater Mekong Subregion, and import-export customs brokerage services. In the 2026 fiscal year, a total of 355 individuals successfully completed these training programs. Captain Pattarassamee highlighted the program's success, noting that graduates are readily absorbed into the workforce immediately after completing their training. A significant number of companies, specifically 147 private firms that are members of the logistics associations, have hired these skilled individuals. This has resulted in a substantial collective annual income for these workers, estimated at over 47 million baht, or approximately 3.99 million baht per month. This outcome demonstrates the effective conversion of government investment in skills development into tangible economic benefits for the labor force. Building on this demonstrable success, the government is preparing to extend the program in the 2027 fiscal year. The objective is to train an additional 600 highly skilled individuals in the logistics and transportation business. This expansion aims to cultivate a new cohort of professionals ready for immediate deployment, thereby enhancing the nation's economic competitiveness and providing concrete solutions to unemployment.
