Vietnam Boosts Management and Restoration of Martyrs' Memorials in Transport and Construction Sectors

The Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Construction in Vietnam are strengthening the management and restoration of martyrs' memorials and monuments. At a meeting chaired by Construction Minister Tran Hong Minh in Hanoi on July 28, 2023, the ministries outlined requirements for managing and restoring cemeteries and memorial sites for cadres, workers, and youth volunteers in the transport and construction sectors. These include establishing a unified mechanism, mobilizing social resources, and maintaining continuous tribute activities. This initiative is a crucial part of Vietnam's efforts, under its socialist system, to honor the sacrifices made during past wars and to commemorate the history of national unification and development. The commemoration of contributors in the vital transport and construction sectors, essential for national infrastructure development, contributes to fostering national unity and patriotism. Local initiatives have also been reported. In Dien Bien province, youth union members lit candles to honor heroes and martyrs at the A1 Martyrs' Cemetery. In Vinh Long province, the remains of martyrs buried in temporary cemeteries were collected. The 7th Military Region organized tribute activities at the Ho Chi Minh City Martyrs' Cemetery. Furthermore, the upgrade project for the Doi 82 Martyrs' Cemetery has commenced. The railway sector has also undertaken activities to assist in the return of heroes and martyrs to their hometowns. These activities, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, hold significant importance within Vietnam's socio-political context, aiming to share gratitude for sacrifices in national construction and defense across society and to pass this legacy to future generations. While Vietnam continues its economic growth, its engagement with its past history is positioned as an indispensable element for shaping national identity and ensuring social stability.
