Over 100kg of Illegal Fireworks Seized in Central Vietnam, Man Arrested

In Quang Tri Province, central Vietnam, a man was arrested for transporting over 100 kilograms of illegal fireworks, believed to be of Chinese origin. On August 2nd, the Quang Tri Provincial Police Department of Traffic Police reported that the Dakrong Traffic Police Station's patrol team discovered a man on a black Yamaha Exciter motorcycle without a license plate, carrying numerous black boxes, and attempted to question him on National Highway 9, traveling from Lao Bao towards Dong Ha. The suspect did not comply with the authorities' order to stop, instead crashing his vehicle into the patrol team and fleeing. He was apprehended approximately 39.8 kilometers from the initial encounter. The arrested individual has been identified as Pham Khac V., born in 1998, a resident of Tan Lap village, Quang Tri Province. An inspection of the vehicle revealed 54 boxes of fireworks, each containing 49 tubes, totaling approximately 102 kilograms of explosive fireworks. V. confessed that the fireworks were manufactured in China and had been smuggled into the country. Currently, V. and all confiscated evidence have been handed over to the Huong Hiep Village Police for further investigation and legal processing. This incident highlights the persistent issue of smuggling firearms and explosives, which are strictly controlled under Vietnam's one-party system, along border areas. As Vietnam continues its economic growth, there is a tendency for the circulation of illegal goods to increase in tandem with rising consumer demand. Such smuggling cases are frequently reported, particularly in northern and central provinces with long borders with China, prompting authorities to intensify their crackdown efforts.
