Cambodia: Woman Arrested in Murder Case, Accomplice Apprehended

In a serious murder case that occurred in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, police authorities have arrested a female accomplice who was on the run. The incident took place in the early morning of September 16, 2026, in the Toul Kork district of Sen Sok, Phnom Penh. The victim was identified as a 32-year-old Cambodian woman, Kam Mara. Two suspects have been identified: Son Kimai, a 32-year-old male, and Than Sreypy, a 26-year-old female. They are suspected of assaulting and killing the victim. Immediately after the incident, the Phnom Penh Municipal Police apprehended one of the suspects, Son Kimai, near the scene. However, the other suspect, Than Sreypy, managed to escape. Subsequently, under the strict orders of senior officials from the Cambodia National Police, specialized units from the Criminal Police Department intensified their investigation. Led by Colonel Hun Munnyrat, Colonel Hem Bona, and Deputy Director Colonel Chan Kimly, in cooperation with the police forces of Kampong Cham and Prey Veng provinces, they conducted an investigation to identify the hiding place of the fugitive Than Sreypy. As a result, on the evening of September 17, 2026, the investigation team successfully arrested Than Sreypy in Jor Village, Kragnoung Commune, Kampong Meas District, Prey Veng Province. Both suspects have now been transferred to the Criminal Police Department for questioning. They will subsequently be handed over to the Toul Kork District Police Inspectorate for further legal proceedings. This case highlights the swiftness of law enforcement and crime investigation in Cambodia. The apprehension of the fugitive suspect within a short period suggests an improvement in the police's investigative capabilities.
