Cambodia Reaffirms Commitment to Eradicating Online Scams to Canadian Envoy

Cambodian Minister of Justice, Kittirith, reaffirmed Cambodia's strong will to eradicate technology-based scams to the Canadian Ambassador, Christian DesRoches, stating that large-scale online scam centers have been completely dismantled from the country. During a meeting at the Ministry of Justice on the afternoon of September 21, 2026, Minister Kittirith highlighted to Ambassador DesRoches the Cambodian government's efforts, commitment, and achievements in cleaning up technology-based fraud crimes (Online Scam). However, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that technology-based fraud, a new form of transnational crime, requires joint cooperation from all countries and stakeholders to combat this crime. In this regard, he reiterated that Cambodia is open to cooperation from all countries and relevant parties to enhance the effectiveness of eradicating technology-based fraud crimes. Ambassador Christian DesRoches acknowledged and highly valued the efforts, commitment, and achievements that Cambodia has made in eradicating technology-based fraud crimes. The Ambassador also confirmed Canada's readiness to provide necessary cooperation and support in the campaign against technology-based fraud in Cambodia. The statements from both sides came after the Royal Government of Cambodia, especially its competent forces, has been actively engaged in cracking down on technology-based fraud crimes present in the country. According to a senior government official responsible for combating technology-based fraud, there are currently no online scam centers operating within Cambodia. Mr. Chhai Sinarith, Head of the Secretariat of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Combating Technology-Based Fraud, announced that large-scale online scam centers have been thoroughly cleared by Cambodian authorities. He stated that over a one-year period, from July 2025 to August 20, 2026, Cambodian law enforcement forces conducted investigations and inspections of a total of 793 suspected locations, leading to the actual crackdown in 624 locations.
