PUVs can apply for special permits starting Sept. 21 for Undas
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced that applications for special permits for public utility vehicles (PUVs) during the All Saints' and All Souls' Days (Undas) period will open on September 21. The initiative aims to facilitate travel for commuters and pilgrims, preventing stranded passengers.
MANILA, Philippines — Public utility vehicles (PUV) can start applying for special permits on Sept. 21 to serve more commuters during All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days, according to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board. Acting LTFRB Chairman Greg Pua Jr. said the goal is to ensure that “there will be no stranded passengers.” Filing period is from Sept. 21 to Oct. 2. Special permits are valid from Oct. 28 to Nov. 6. Over 800 buses were given special permits last year. Eligible PUVs should not be more than 14 years old from the date of manufacture, among other conditions. This initiative aims to bolster public transport capacity during the Undas period, a significant time for Filipinos to visit ancestral graves and often involving extensive travel, thus preventing stranded passengers.
