VAST Boosts Global Partnerships via Science and People-to-People Diplomacy

The Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology (VAST) is strengthening its partnerships with international research institutions and organizations through a series of engagements. During a working visit to Austria from July 19-23, a VAST delegation led by Vice President Prof. Dr. Tran Tuan Anh held meetings with leading entities including the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), the Austrian Academy of Sciences, the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien), and the International Atomic Energy Agency. These efforts are aimed at bolstering international cooperation in science and technology, contributing to Vietnam's achievement of its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its commitment to world heritage conservation. Vietnam has consistently showcased a proactive and responsible role in humanitarian efforts and international cooperation on the global stage, and this push for science diplomacy is seen as a continuation of that commitment. Under its one-party system, Vietnam views scientific and technological advancement as a crucial pillar for national modernization and economic growth. Collaboration with international research bodies is vital for adopting cutting-edge technologies, fostering talent, and aligning with global norms and standards. Amidst complex relations with China, Vietnam is actively diversifying its partnerships with Western nations and other developed countries, with scientific and technological cooperation serving as a key avenue. VAST's recent initiatives clearly signal Vietnam's ambition to enhance its presence in the global scientific community and contribute to solving international challenges.
