Vietnamese President Pays Respect at Tomb of Unknown Soldier in Moscow

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam, accompanied by his spouse and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by the Kremlin Wall in Moscow on the morning of September 8, 2026 (local time) as part of his state visit to the Russian Federation. The monument is one of Russia’s most sacred memorial sites, commemorating Red Army soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Great Patriotic War (1941–1945). President To Lam's visit to Russia reaffirms Vietnam's commitment to its traditional friendship with the nation. While maintaining its single-party system, Vietnam prioritizes economic growth. In this context, strategic relations with Russia play a crucial role in safeguarding Vietnam's national interests, particularly in security and energy. In recent years, Vietnam has also diversified its foreign policy, navigating a complex relationship with China. This visit to Russia is seen as part of that foreign policy, aiming to further strengthen ties with Russia and solidify Vietnam's international standing. Vietnam's leadership has expressed confidence that relations with Russia will continue to develop strongly, and this visit is expected to provide an opportunity to deepen bilateral cooperation, especially in security coordination.
