UK and Norway embassies issue statements supporting the people of Myanmar's democratic endeavors on the 38th anniversary of 8888 Uprising

The British and Norwegian Embassies in Myanmar have issued statements respectively, honoring the efforts and sacrifices of the Myanmar people in their pursuit of democracy on the occasion of the 38th anniversary of the 8888 democratic uprising, which falls on August 8. The Norwegian Embassy stated that the 8888 Uprising was a significant turning point in Myanmar's history and that it honors and recognizes those who demonstrated for democratic change. It also stated that it remembers all those who made sacrifices for a more just and peaceful future. Similarly, the British Embassy's statement indicated that 38 years ago, the entire population of Myanmar united to demand democracy and respect for human rights. The British Embassy's statement further stated that this spirit continues to live on, and the British government will continue to stand in support of the firm determination of the Myanmar people for a peaceful and just democratic future. Additionally, the EU has posted a picture of the 8888 Uprising with the text "The Spirit Lives On 2026" on its social media.
