DPR Rejects Abolition of Teacher Training Programs on National Education Day, Urges Focus on Quality and Teacher Welfare

MY Esti Wijayanti, Deputy Chairman of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), explicitly rejected the discourse on abolishing teacher training programs proposed by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendikti Saintek) on National Education Day 2026. She emphasized that education is a fundamental right and the state's obligation to provide quality education for all children and ensure teacher welfare. Citing the persistent shortage of teachers in remote areas, she urged a reconsideration of the proposed abolition.
