IMF: Strategic Policy Advisor for Vietnam's Socio-Economic Development
Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung met with IMF representatives, reaffirming the IMF's role as a strategic policy advisor in the country's socio-economic development. The IMF will support Vietnam's sustainable growth and integration into the global economy.
On the afternoon of July 28, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung received Mr. Jochen Schmittmann, the incumbent Chief Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Office in Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, and Mr. Fazurin Jamaludin, the successor Chief Representative of the IMF in Vietnam and Laos, effective August 23, 2026. During the meeting, the role of the IMF as a strategic policy advisor in Vietnam's socio-economic development was emphasized. The IMF has provided crucial advice in addressing Vietnam's economic challenges and achieving sustainable growth. Its expertise is particularly valued in areas such as maintaining macroeconomic stability, promoting structural reforms, and deepening integration into the global economy. Through close cooperation with the IMF, the Vietnamese government aims to diversify its economy, enhance competitiveness, and improve the quality of life for its citizens. The advice from the IMF is considered to contribute to improving the quality of policy-making by offering an objective external perspective in shaping the direction of economic policies under Vietnam's one-party system. This meeting signifies Vietnam's intention to further strengthen its partnership with the IMF and solidify its path to economic development amidst global economic fluctuations.
