Maybank (Cambodia) has secured the top position in the $1 billion–$1.99 billion asset division of Cambodia's banking sector, according to the latest SuperPower Banking Index 2026 results released by SuperBankRatings. The bank achieved a score of 4.42 out of 5, narrowly edging out CIMB Bank Cambodia, which scored 4.40. The top five banks in this division are: 1. Maybank (Cambodia): 4.42/5 2. CIMB Bank Cambodia: 4.40/5 3. SBI Bank (Cambodia): 4.24/5 (Joint) 3. Cambodia Post Bank: 4.24/5 (Joint) 5. Chip Mong Commercial Bank: 4.15/5 The close contest, with only 0.27 points separating the first and fifth-ranked banks, underscores the competitive landscape. SuperBankRatings noted that diverse ownership, business models, and institutional strengths can lead to comparable overall scores. Maybank's strong performance is attributed to robust governance, parent company support, substantial liquidity, experienced management, sustainability capabilities, and technology. CIMB Bank's high score reflects similar strengths, including group backing, governance, risk management infrastructure, liquidity, technology, and sustainability. The index assesses banks based on 11 parameters and 329 benchmark points across 49 commercial bank assessments, combining 40% quantitative and 60% qualitative analysis, rather than solely balance sheet size or profitability. Asset size determines a bank's division, while its overall benchmark score dictates its rank within that division. SuperBankRatings is set to release rankings for the $2 billion–$4.99 billion division on September 18 and the $5 billion-plus division on September 21. Source: Cambodia Investment Review
