EU Approves $1.8 Million Grant for Cambodian Mine Action

The European Union (EU) has approved a grant of $1.8 million USD (approximately 1.8 million Euros) to support the activities of the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) for a period of 18 months, commencing from October 2026. Regarding this matter, His Excellency Heng Ratana, Delegate of the Royal Government in charge as Director General of CMAC, stated that the approval for this assistance was made during a meeting with a European Union (EU) delegation for the region, led by Mr. Andreas Roettger, Head of the FPI Working Group and his team. The meeting took place at the Techo Peace Museum in Siem Reap Province on the afternoon of September 22, 2026. His Excellency Heng Ratana further clarified that Mr. Andreas Roettger, Head of the FPI Working Group, confirmed the approval of financial assistance to support CMAC's mine clearance activities in collaboration with partner organization APOPO. The funding amounts to 1,598,999 Euros, equivalent to approximately 1.8 million US dollars, and will be implemented over an 18-month period starting from October 2026. His Excellency Heng Ratana added that "This project will be implemented in Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey provinces. This assistance will enable the clearance of more than 6,000 hectares of affected land, mine risk education, and the gathering of information on land affected by explosive remnants of war."
