Prabowo: Indonesia's Support for Palestine is Non-Negotiable

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has reiterated that the nation will continue to uphold a "free and active foreign policy." He further emphasized that support for the Palestinian struggle for independence is a "non-negotiable principle." President Prabowo made these remarks during the 28th anniversary commemoration of the National Awakening Party (PKB) on Thursday (July 23). "As soon as I am inaugurated, I will announce Indonesia's foreign policy: we are grateful that we are non-aligned, we have no enemies," Prabowo stated. He added that Indonesia respects all countries and powers and wishes to be a good neighbor to other nations. "We want to be free and active. I say, Indonesia's foreign policy under the administration led by Prabowo Subianto is a good neighbor policy. We want to be good neighbors. We are good with all powers, but what we cannot negotiate is supporting the struggle for Palestinian independence," he said. President Prabowo also indicated that Indonesia does not want to be interfered with by other countries and mentioned that the nation is currently building its defense capabilities. He explained that Indonesia's strength lies in its "people's defense" system and the love of its people for their country. "We do not want to disturb others, but all Indonesian people will defend their sovereignty, their independence, and their future," he declared. These statements suggest that the Prabowo administration intends to maintain and strengthen Indonesia's long-standing solidarity with Palestine. As a country with a predominantly Muslim population, the Palestinian issue is a politically and socially significant matter that greatly influences public opinion domestically.
