Mandalay Management Corporation Building Construction Begins in Myanmar, First to Incorporate Seismic Isolators

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Mandalay Management Corporation (MMC) building, which will incorporate seismic isolators to reduce earthquake damage, was held at Mingalar Mandalay, located between Mingalar Street and 107th Street in Chanmyathazi Township, on August 31st at 8 AM, with the Mandalay Region Government attending and presiding over the event. The groundbreaking ceremony for the MMC building, which will be the first in Myanmar to incorporate seismic isolators to reduce earthquake damage, was attended by U Aung Kyaw Moe, Speaker of the Mandalay Region Hluttaw; U Myo Aung, Chief Minister of Mandalay Region; Dr. Thaung Naing, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Construction; Colonel Ne Lin Soe, Minister of Security and Border Affairs of the Mandalay Region Government; and U Kin Maung Aye, Minister of Urban Development and Health and Mayor of the Mandalay Region Government. The ceremony included rituals such as the foundation stone laying, the well-digging ceremony, and a shower of gold and silver. "Mandalay city is actually a city located close to the Sagaing Fault, and it is a city that suffered severe damage from the great Mandalay earthquake in 2025. Therefore, regarding buildings to be constructed in Mandalay city, technologies that reduce earthquake damage are among the aspects we must prioritize. If advanced earthquake-resistant technologies like these are incorporated into the construction of important buildings such as hospitals and high-rise administrative buildings, these buildings will remain operational without significant damage during the post-earthquake recovery efforts, so it is necessary to widely implement such technologies. The Mandalay City Development Committee is also scrutinizing and proceeding with the construction of high-rise buildings within Mandalay city in accordance with the standards contained in the Myanmar Building Code MMBC 2025," replied U Kin Maung Aye, Minister of Urban Development and Health and Mayor of the Mandalay Region Government, to media inquiries at the ceremony. Due to the powerful earthquake that struck on March 28, 2025, numerous buildings in and around Mandalay city were damaged. New Starlight Company, after consulting with domestic experts, visited earthquake-affected areas in China from the 2008 Sichuan earthquake and the manufacturing plant of SafetyInside Company, which produces base isolators, accompanied by experts. Subsequently, to mitigate the damage caused by powerful earthquakes in Myanmar, New Starlight Company and SafetyInside Company merged to establish New Starlight SafetyInside Company. Base isolators are installed and used between the building and the ground, representing a modern technology that reduces the seismic force and movements that can be transmitted to the building during an earthquake.
