(July 19) Mizzima. Phakant protest column and local residents in Phakant Township, Kachin State, honored the martyrs on the 79th Martyrs’ Day and protested against the Myitsone project, stating they would not accept it at all. Participants in the protest column laid wreaths to honor the Father of Independence, General Aung San, and the martyrs, and also commemorated the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during successive uprisings and the Spring Revolution. Furthermore, they clearly expressed their opposition to the Myitsone project, which is being pushed forward without the people's will, based on the future of the country built with the lives and blood of the fallen martyrs and revolutionary fighters. The Myitsone project is one that has been controversial in Kachin State for many years, and local residents and civil society organizations have repeatedly expressed concerns about the potential impact on the environment, cultural heritage, and the interests of local people.
