The US Embassy in the Kingdom of Cambodia has chosen the Chatomok sidewalk in the Phsar Kandal I neighborhood of Daun Penh district to host a celebration commemorating the 250th anniversary of American Independence Day. The event, which also features an exhibition of American food and products, was opened to the public on the evening of July 4, 2026. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Khuong Sreng, Governor of Phnom Penh, and Ms. Aleksandra Zittle, Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy to the Kingdom of Cambodia. Both officials toured the stalls and sampled American food. This event underscores America's long-standing spirit of innovation and diplomatic engagement, aiming to further strengthen the relationship between the United States and Cambodia. Mr. Khuong Sreng remarked that this celebration of the 250th anniversary of American Independence Day comes just five days after the 76th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and the United States, which was on June 29, 1950. He stated that cooperation between Cambodia and the United States is progressing well, as Cambodia enjoys complete peace under the leadership of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and now under the continued leadership of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, the current Prime Minister. This, he added, has further improved the diplomatic relations between the two countries. Mr. Khuong Sreng continued that through these diplomatic relations, the sectors of trade, investment, education, and demining in Cambodia are improving, along with a joint commitment to maintaining global security. Mr. Khuong Sreng further noted that the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration has collaborated with the US Embassy by providing the location at the Chatomok sidewalk, which is a major hub for both state and private commercial promotion in Phnom Penh and a tourist area that receives enthusiastic support from national and international tourists. Ms. Aleksandra Zittle, on the occasion, stated that 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, a significant milestone that is not only celebrated by Americans but also jointly with their Cambodian friends throughout the year. She added that the Pacific Brass music ensemble, present at the event, is a universal language that requires no translation.
