Svay Rieng Province Advances Plans for Menous Canal (Khsay Tre) Rehabilitation

Svay Rieng Province in Cambodia is advancing plans to rehabilitate the Menous Canal (Khsay Tre). On the morning of September 18, 2026, H.E. Peng Pousa, Governor of the Provincial Administration of Svay Rieng, presided over a meeting to define the area of the Menous Canal (Khsay Tre), located in the Chhantrea and Kampong Rouht districts. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Governor of the province, provincial department heads, the Director of Kampong Rouht District, the Director of Chhantrea District, the Director of the Inter-sectoral Department of the Provincial Hall, the Chief of the Land Management, Urban Planning, Construction, and Cadastral Office of Kampong Rouht and Chhantrea districts, and commune chiefs and village chiefs from Samey, Khsay Tre, and Tnaot communes of Kampong Rouht district, and from Prek and Chhantrea communes of Chhantrea district. This meeting aims to examine and discuss the demarcation of the Menous Canal (Khsay Tre), which is a natural canal. Currently, the canal is shallow and its functionality as a water reservoir for use during both the dry and rainy seasons has diminished. Following the completion of the impact assessment, the Provincial Administration will consider the feasibility of dredging and restoring the canal to ensure the sustainability of water for the public's use in the future.
