The Cambodian Red Cross has donated two newly constructed houses to two extremely impoverished families residing in Toul Slaing Village, Toul Ampil Commune, Baset District, Kampong Speu Province. The handover ceremony took place on July 5, 2026, with Madam Pum Chanthini, Secretary General of the Cambodian Red Cross, representing the esteemed President, Dr. Bun Rany Hun Sen. His Excellency Dr. Cham Chansophoan, President of the Kampong Speu Provincial Red Cross Branch, and his wife, Madam Meng Vandanin, also attended. The beneficiaries are Mr. Chun Puth, a 32-year-old widower with two young children, and Mrs. Thon Pov, a 60-year-old widow living with her grandchild. Mr. Chun Puth lived in a dilapidated shack with only a roof and no walls, relying on fishing, crab catching, and frog hunting for sustenance, a livelihood that barely provided enough for his children and offered no shelter during rain. Mrs. Thon Pov resided with her grandchild in a tattered hut, earning a meager income from stripping palm leaves, gleaning rice grains, and catching crabs. Heavy rains would force them to seek refuge in neighbors' homes. Witnessing their dire circumstances, Dr. Bun Rany Hun Sen decided to fund the construction of two sturdy stone houses with corrugated iron roofs, which were built by the Kampong Speu Provincial Red Cross Branch. Alongside the homes, essential household items, food supplies, and a sum of money were also provided. During the ceremony, Madam Pum Chanthini emphasized the Cambodian Red Cross's unwavering commitment to assisting citizens in all circumstances, stating that "Where there is hardship, there is always the Cambodian Red Cross." She highlighted how under the wise leadership of Dr. Bun Rany Hun Sen, vulnerable individuals, including the poor, elderly, widows, and orphans, have been given renewed hope, escaping hunger, receiving adequate food, and securing decent shelter through continuous support in the form of emergency relief and housing construction. Madam Pum Chanthini further stated that the two houses serve as a clear testament to the President's care for those facing difficulties and suffering, enabling them to live with dignity and sufficient food. She reiterated the slogan, "No citizen will die of hunger; the Cambodian Red Cross will always be with you, no matter how dire the circumstances." She also advised the recipient families to take good care of the houses donated by the President, strive to improve their livelihoods through farming and animal husbandry, and ensure their children attend school when they reach the appropriate age for a better future.
