Cambodia Advances Voter Registration and List Update for 2026 General Election

The National Election Committee (NEC) of Cambodia held a meeting with stakeholders on September 23, 2026, to discuss the progress of voter list verification and registration for the general election scheduled for 2026. Presided over by NEC Vice Chairman and Chairman Chea Chhonn, the meeting provided stakeholders with an update on the dissemination of the 2025 official voter list, the estimated number of polling stations, the announcement of polling station locations, and the provisional results of distributing invitation letters to voters registered on the 2025 official voter list. The NEC's provincial and municipal election secretariats have collaborated with commune/sangkat authorities and village chiefs to distribute these invitations directly to citizens' residences. Vice Chairman Chea Chhonn stated that the process of inspecting and registering voter lists is part of the electoral roll update process, adhering to the legal principles of the permanent electoral roll system. This initiative aims to enhance the completeness, accuracy, and currency of the voter lists, while also ensuring the confidentiality, security, and safety of voter identification data. This process is crucial for enhancing the transparency and credibility of elections and serves as a vital step in ensuring that all eligible Cambodian citizens have the opportunity to participate in the voting process. The NEC is committed to conducting fair and free elections through continued cooperation with relevant institutions and local authorities.
