Vietnam Aims to Build Advanced Medical Ecosystem by 2050

Vietnam's adjusted healthcare network master plan for 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050, outlines the construction of an advanced medical ecosystem across the country. The plan establishes a regional structure, dividing the nation into six socio-economic regions, and aims to enhance healthcare delivery within each area. Key objectives include establishing 17 provincial general hospitals to serve regional functions, at least one highly specialized hospital in each region, and at least one advanced medical facility in every province and city. The master plan seeks to comprehensively improve the quality of healthcare services in Vietnam. It emphasizes enhancing care through the implementation of smart hospitals and highlights medical advancements alongside humanitarian aspects, as exemplified by cross-border organ donation initiatives. The Prime Minister has stressed the necessity for the health sector to make every effort to save lives, with this plan representing a concrete step towards that goal. Under Vietnam's one-party system, state-led long-term planning has been a significant driver of economic and social development. Such large-scale investments and infrastructure development in the healthcare sector are expected not only to improve public health but also to foster technological advancement domestically and potentially create new economic opportunities, such as medical tourism, in the future. Furthermore, this strategy to elevate domestic medical standards, while considering regional medical cooperation and relations with countries like China, is likely to contribute to Vietnam's growing influence in the region.
