The latest generation BMW X1 has been unveiled in Vietnam, featuring a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and priced from VND 1.689 billion (approximately $65,000 USD). Locally assembled models are slated for delivery starting in October.
The latest generation of BMW's X1 compact luxury SUV has officially arrived in the Vietnamese market. Unveiled on June 7, the new model is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, delivering 204 horsepower. THACO, the official distributor of BMW in Vietnam, presented the 2026 X1 at the Dai Nam race track near Ho Chi Minh City. The displayed vehicle is an imported unit from Germany, intended for public viewing and pre-orders. Locally assembled versions are scheduled to begin customer deliveries in October. This marks the third generation for the X1, BMW's smallest crossover utility vehicle, and comes approximately five years after its initial introduction to Vietnam. The new generation features a complete overhaul of both its exterior and interior design, along with increased dimensions. The new X1 measures 4,500mm in length, 1,845mm in width, and 1,642mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,692mm. Compared to its predecessor, it is 53mm longer, 24mm wider, 44mm taller, and has a 22mm longer wheelbase. The exterior design is more squared and muscular. The LED adaptive headlights feature a distinctive double-hook daytime running light signature, and the kidney grille is larger and more upright. The rear design is characterized by its three-dimensional taillights. The vehicle is fitted with 19-inch alloy wheels, and its front and rear bumpers sport a sporty aesthetic. Satin aluminum finish on the roof rails and window surrounds adds a sophisticated touch. Inside, the X1 embraces a strong technological theme with a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster dominating the dashboard. Silver aluminum trim accents provide a modern and youthful ambiance in the cabin. The interior is fully upholstered in leather. Standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and wireless charging. Safety technologies encompass a 360-degree camera system, tire pressure monitoring, cruise control, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning with emergency brake assist. The variant presented in Vietnam is the BMW X1 sDrive20i. Its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine produces 204 horsepower between 5,000-6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 300 Nm between 1,450-4,500 rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed automatic transmission. The car can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds and has a top speed of 236 km/h. Performance has significantly increased compared to the previous generation's 1.5-liter engine. With a starting price of VND 1.689 billion, the BMW X1 competes with rivals such as the Audi Q3 (VND 2.099-2.199 billion) and the Volvo XC40 (VND 1.82 billion). While Audi and Volvo models are imported, the BMW X1 will be locally assembled, offering a potential price advantage. THACO is offering a special discount of VND 1.668 billion for the first 80 customers who purchase the new generation X1. Source: VnExpress
