Vehicles in Kayah State expired for over five years can be re-registered upon submission of required documents

It has been announced that vehicles in Kayah State whose registration has expired for over five years will be allowed to be re-registered if the necessary documents are submitted, in order to facilitate the public and prevent them from suffering losses, said Union Minister of Transport Deputy Minister U Htun Lu. In response to a question raised by Daw Maw Maw Khine from Dimawso constituency, representing U Maung Shwe, Member of Parliament for Loikaw constituency in Kayah State, at the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw session held today (July 27), regarding whether there is a plan to extend the licenses of motor vehicles and motorcycles whose registration has expired for over five years from 2021 to 2026, the Deputy Minister of Transport U Htun Lu made the statement. According to Section 31 (a) (3) of the Road Transport Administration Department of the Ministry of Transport's Law on Road Safety and Motor Vehicle Management 2020, it is stipulated that if a motor vehicle registration is not renewed for five consecutive years after its expiry, the motor vehicle registration shall be cancelled, the Deputy Minister of Transport stated. However, due to regional conditions and transportation difficulties, if vehicle owners wish to re-apply for registration of motor vehicles and motorcycles whose registration periods have expired, they will be required to submit a valid household registration certificate from the ward administration office in the area where they have been displaced, the motor vehicle registration book proving actual ownership of the motor vehicles and motorcycles, and the motor vehicle certificate. After inspecting the motor vehicles and motorcycles and confirming the accuracy of the vehicle and its records, re-registration will be carried out, the Deputy Minister of Transport said. "Therefore, among the registered motor vehicles numbering 2,755 and motorcycles numbering 29,665 in Kayah State, totaling 32,420 vehicles, for motor vehicles and motorcycles whose registration has expired for over five years, if the aforementioned documents are submitted, re-registration will be carried out to facilitate the public and prevent them from suffering losses," said Union Minister of Transport Deputy Minister U Htun Lu. Furthermore, for vehicles whose registration period has not yet exceeded five years, in order to prevent their registration from expiring, for difficult-to-reach townships, the Motor Vehicle Business Management Committee in the respective townships will collect the motor vehicle registration books and registration certificates of the motor vehicles and motorcycles that wish to renew their registration and send them to the Loikaw State Office of the Road Transport Administration Department. In such special cases, renewal will be assisted with exemption from vehicle inspection, the Deputy Minister of Transport U Htun Lu also stated.
