Son Sets Fire to Parents' Home in Bandung, Father Injured

A 22-year-old man, identified by the initials AR, allegedly set fire to his parents' home in Jalan Cirangrang, Babakan Ciparay, Bandung City, West Java, on Tuesday (4/8). The arson occurred around 1:00 PM local time. The rapidly spreading fire also engulfed two neighboring houses. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported in the incident. Kurniawan, the Chief of the Babakan Ciparay Police Sector, stated that prior to the incident, the perpetrator was seen by residents being scolded by his mother. This is believed to be the motive behind the arson. "The motive was resentment from being continuously scolded by his mother," Kurniawan said at the Babakan Ciparay Police Sector. According to the perpetrator's statement, he ignited the fire by setting ablaze a motorcycle parked inside the house. The flames quickly grew, consuming the house and spreading to other buildings. "His father sustained burns on his hands," he added. Police have secured one burnt motorcycle and two gas lighters believed to have been used by the perpetrator to set the house on fire.
