Cambodia Braces for Heavy Rains, Gusts, and Thunderstorms as Tropical Depression 'Noul' Approaches

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology of Cambodia has issued a warning regarding Tropical Depression 'Noul', predicting a high probability of heavy rains, strong winds, and thunderstorms across the country. The tropical depression, which developed from a low-pressure area in the western Pacific Ocean, is currently influencing the southwest monsoon, affecting the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong River Basin, Cambodian Sea, and the Kingdom of Cambodia. According to the ministry's forecast, from July 24 to July 29, 2026, the following areas are expected to experience these weather phenomena: 1. Lowland areas: Provinces such as Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Kandal, Takeo, Svay Rieng, and Phnom Penh are expected to have a 50% chance of experiencing heavy rains with thunderstorms and gusty winds. 2. Highland areas: Provinces including Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, and the Dangrek and Cardamom mountain ranges are predicted to have a 70% chance of experiencing heavy rains with thunderstorms and gusty winds. 3. Coastal areas: Provinces such as Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and the Bokor Mountain area are expected to have a 70% chance of experiencing heavy rains with thunderstorms and gusty winds, with sea waves ranging from a minimum average height of 0.50 meters to a maximum average height of 1.75 meters. The ministry urges the public to exercise extreme caution regarding these phenomena, especially when traveling by land or water. The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology will continue to monitor and analyze the weather situation and provide further updates as needed.
